Blog is up-and-running: Introducing my price parity app

So this is my first blog post. For those of you that know me, I recently completed my MBA with a focus in data analytics. I had a design and public affairs background having served in the Navy and worked for Vail Resorts, but what I’m really excited about is the confluence of data and design. I spend a seemingly excessive amount of time playing with data and numbers, and I figured this would be my platform for some projects – including sound editing, video editing, analytics, coding – that are reflective of some of my own recreational interests.

Below is an interactive worksheet that I made over this weekend. As a recent MBA I have interviewed for many jobs in the last year. One of those companies included a Bay Area-company that links tech employees with tech companies on a pre-determined salary.

In my MBA program, one of our guest speakers was Jeff Jones, a former CFO of Vail Resorts, as part of our career development program. He reiterated “I hate salary negotiations.”

Well true it was, but it’s still a part of life. This prompted me to start developing a web app for people planning on taking jobs out of the state they’re currently living in. The patent is pending, so I’m a little hesitant to discuss the features, for obvious reasons. However, I did spend the weekend with this little sneekpeak: a simple parameter control that factors your salary for price parity: the same salary doesn’t carry the same weight wherever you go. This app shows you just how far your dollar goes in each state (upcoming: a county-by-county analysis).
